Coining of a Copper Cup for the Military Industry
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project highlighted is an example of our ability to save our customers’ material and labor by developing innovative manufacturing techniques. This part was machined from large ingots of oxygen free 101 copper, its high cost was driving the need for a lower cost manufacturing solution.
Utilizing our 600 ton knuckle joint/embossing press, we were able to produce 2 pieces from the same amount of material needed to make 1.
The finished cup measures 137.400mm in diameter, and 23.35mm in height, and features a 1.6 micrometer finish. It fully complies with ASTM B170 standards, and meets tolerances of +0.000mm/- 0.050mm, and angular tolerances of ±0.5°. At ART Metals Group we take quality seriously, everything that we manufacture is subject to stringent quality measures, this particular part received size testing, dimensional and angular checks throughout production.
Annual volume of 25,000 precision coined large copper cups, manufactured with very little waste and labor. Our coining capabilities allows us to coin near net shapes out of many different types of materials, including bearing races from bearing grade material and post heat treated materials, To learn more about this project, see the table below or contact us directly.
